There are only three bets, so pick one and bet on it. You have a 1 in 3 chance of picking the best bet. No, that’s not a good idea, I’m just kidding. Let’s take a look at the numbers and decide which bet has the best odds for the player.
When you look at Baccarat being played it often looks like a game for celebrities and VIP’s only. There is an exclusive feel to the game that makes it very intimidating to many people. Don’t let all this fool you. Like I said, for a player it is very simple there are only three bets that can be made, so don’t worry about all the glitz, glamour, and etiquette for right now.
You have three outcomes that you can choose to bet on. You can bet on the player hand winning, the banker hand winning, or that both hands will tie. That’s it, simple as that. Now, the game itself and how it is played gets a little more complex but the dealer will take care of all of that. If you are a beginner, you simply bet on one of these three outcomes.
If you bet $20 that the player hand will win and it does you will win $20 or a 1 to 1 payoff. If you bet $20 on the banker hand and it wins, you will win $20 but you will also owe a 5% commission on that win which would be $1. The dealer will keep track of that commission that you owe and at the end of the shoe you will have to pay. If you bet $20 on the tie bet and win, you will be paid $160 or 8 to 1 payoff.
Even though the tie bet pays 8 to 1, it is the worst bet in Baccarat. The house has a 14.36% advantage over the player with this bet, which is terrible. That leaves either the player or banker hand bets. Both of these bets have low house advantages, which is a good thing. If you bet on the player hand the house edge is 1.24%. If you bet on the banker the house edge is 1.06% and can be even lower on games that pay less than a 5% commission.
The best bet in Baccarat is to bet on the banker hand, but the player hand bet is pretty good too. Just stay away from the tie bet.
